Trinity Methodist Church occupies a most beautiful and enviable position overlooking the Stray.
It is an imposing Gothic-style structure and standing as it does on a triangular plot it forms a pleasing feature of the Harrogate landscape.
The Foundation stones were laid in October 1876 and the Church was opened for worship in April 1879.
The Schoolroom was added in 1888 along with the Chapel Keepers Cottage.
Trinity is busy throughout the year with weddings.
Many organisations in the Harrogate area use the facilities for meetings and functions; a private playgroup meets four mornings a week during term time.
Trinity provides a place for worship and prayer, reflection and quietness alongside busy main roads.
In the wider community we are committed to work out our faith in God our Father, as we see him in Jesus and to care for all, whatever their status or condition, through prayer and service.
We offer an open invitation for all to join our worship and fellowship, which may lead to new or renewed faith and Church growth.
A booklet entitled ‘ History of and a Guide to Trinity is available in the porch price £2.00

TRINITY CHURCH SET TO RAISE £1M TO PRESERVE FUTURE
Redevelopment of a landmark Church raises lots of issues of heritage and conservation
but this must be balanced with the needs of mission and affordability. Trinity Church
has occupied a landmark site on the Harrogate Stray for 130 years. The congregation
now wish to make the Church fit for the 21St century by selling off the Church hall
and cottage and re-establishing improved community facilities within the grade 2
listed building.
When the trustees first met in 1874, they resolved that a chapel should be built
to seat 700 people at a cost of no more than £7,000. A graceful spire was built by
Murgatroyd’s of Bradford in 1880 for an additional £1,590 and a fine organ by Foster
and Andrews was also installed at a cost of £1,200. Today it costs more than £7,000
each year just to heat and light the building.
After a very prolonged debate lasting nearly 10 years the Church Council has finally
decided that it needs to exploit the space within the Church and reduce overall maintenance
costs of the site in order to support ministry and preserve it’s future.
A planning application has been submitted for eight apartments which would occupy
the rear of the site thus providing a substantial contribution towards the required
funding. Within the Church the aim is to preserve the best features of the original
design within a reduced worship area whilst creating modern, flexible, community
space.
A series of fund raising events has begun and a publicity drive in the Harrogate
Advertiser and Yorkshire Post will hopefully encourage people and organisations with
no direct connection to the Church to assist in extending and reshaping the life
of this iconic building.
Redevelopment “Statement of Need” is our official submission to the circuit/district/head
office.
